INNSIDE BY MELIA, NEW YORK CITY, USA
Located at the heart of Manhattan in what is quickly becoming the latest trendy area in the city, the NoMad District, the new INNSIDE by Meliá Hotel is the first US location of the urban lifestyle brand developed by the major hospitality Spanish group Meliá.
Discretely located mid-block, slightly recessed from the street, the hotel has an understated European feel, where the elegance comes from materials and space rather than opulence. Even with 21 floors, the hotel manages to keep a scale that is intimate and personable.
Going inside, Peter Poon Architects, based in New York City, created a design that is absolutely contemporary while not forgetting comfort. An impressive and inviting 120 foot long glass canopy gently marks the entrance to the glass curtained wall structure. The resulting recessed area of the building entrance offers guests a pleasant buffer from the busy street outside.
In the guestrooms, the architects stuck with the basics, infusing simplicity with ingenious solutions to maximize space (always a commodity in New York). Custom furnishings, with clean lines and in neutral tones set the scene for one of the hotels best features – ample glass windows that let plenty of light in offering every room exciting and interesting views of the city.
In the guestroom bathrooms, Kartell by Laufen elements were selected. With its basic yet sophisticated design the pieces perfectly fit in with the designers focus on sleek elegance. The graphic, bold look of the Laufen design compliments and enhances the project’s concept, giving the interior design a strong but understated character.
