A keen sense of trends and developments in society and the environment is a hallmark feature of the work of designer Toan Nguyen. With his design studio, the Toan Nguyen Studio, he designs products that give the contemporary a timeless shape.
Toan Nguyen was born in Paris in 1969 and graduated as an industrial designer at the ENSI-Les Ateliers in Paris in 1995. Nguyen gained experience in his work for various design studios in Paris, Barcelona and Madrid. Starting in 1998 he worked for a decade with Antonio Citterio as design director and design partner. During this time, designs for brands such as B&B Italia, Flos, Fusital, Guzzini, Iittala, Kartell, Technogym and Vitra chairs were created.
In 2008, Toan Nguyen founded his own design studio in Milan. The multidisciplinary Toan Nguyen studio specializes in design development in various product sectors, from furniture to technology products. The partners of the design studio are leading companies from Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the USA, including Accademia, Dedon, Fendi Casa, Lema, Moroso, Urmet Group, Varaschin, Viccarbe, Walter Knoll and LAUFEN. Together with Laufen, Toan Nguyen has developed the innovative, water-saving urinal Antero and the urinal divider Cinto.
Toan Nguyen: “Antero has an intrinsic duality, it is an object used for an intimate function, yet located in a public space. The intention here is to avoid trivializing a ritual act where the space/time dimension is suspended for a few moments. The two-dimensional aspect generated by the simple geometric form engenders the object to serial installation, while the three-dimensionality of the parts that interact with the body foster the most natural and harmonious relationship with the user.”
